Not much about knitting - prom!!!

Hannah's junior prom was this weekend!  I am sooooo glad that I got to be there for it.  Busy day saturday though...

Started by going to decorate for the prom.  Meg says that Hannah owes her big.

Hannah, Sonja and I left early from decorating to go to Hannah's hair appointment.  THAT was an adventure.  My favorite quote was the hair dresser's first statement, "I've never done this before, I don't think anyone could be more nervous than I am."  And, that was indicitive of the whole hair appointment.  It was a three or four person operation with the person who was actually planning to do the hairdo not doing much at all.  Hannah and I had arranged eye blinking signals if we didn't like what they were doing.  We used them quite a bit, and I had to keep saying, "I don't think that looks right."  In the end the hair turned out good, except for the 80s poof ball bangs, which we fixed (although I burned her forehead in the progress).

The finished hair was so cute.

The four of us took a picture, doesn't Hannah put us to shame?

And here are some more pictures, of Hannah and the girls, with her date, and with Katie the knitter, pinning the flower on, and another one of the hard workers

My past couple days

Well, this (and this, yuck) has consumed my past few days.  If all goes well this will be my home for the next four years.  Keeping my fingers crossed.  Let me tell all of you who might care, this whole house buying experience isn't all it's cracked up to be.  Forget about the most exciting time in your life - try the most stressful, or most headache producing, or....  All I can say is thanks to "mom" for hand holding through the process... made it well... so I didn't end up crying by the side of the road and living in a tent under a bridge.

In knitting news - I'll include pictures later.  Tonight we get to go to the local knitting group at Barnes and Nobel.  Should be fun.   Currently I'm working on a pair of socks  out of the Plymouth Sockotta socks.  I love the way this stuff feels.  I'm also working on a bunch of novelty yarn scarves for a craft sale fundraiser for a church here (my future church).  I've finished two today and hope to do some more.  I'm using Cha Cha, Lion Brand Fun Fur, Bernat Boa, and possibly some others.  We'll see how many I can get done before Sunday when I go back to North Dakota.  I'm going to try to have that be all I knit until then.

Hannah and I went to knitting club tonight.  I'm getting more comfortable with this group.  One of Hannah's (becoming mine too :)) good friends Katie who H recently taught to knit came too.  She has a promising future as an obsessive knitter.  Welcome to the club Katie!!!  I had such a great time tonight (even though they discontinued our favorite brownie drink).  It is so good to be around my favorite knitter again!!!  We visited some with other knitters, but it is also a great chance for Hannah and I to visit too.  I had the best evening :)

Between H and I we have a bunch of newly done projects and WIP.   One of these days we'll post some pics.  Need to take some pictures for the craft sale anyway.
Smiling, A

Packed!!!

Well, I am all packed and ready to go to Arizona!!!

The amazing thing is that this closed.  Can you see the yarn for my next Sophie, an extra ball of sock yarn in case I get to that second sock, my Denise needles, the Ipod cozy, and hidden away in there is the Eros to go with the sophie yarn, Knit One, Felt too, clothes for the week, shoes in case I get time to go biking, and knowing me more than enough underwear.

If only my whole apartment were that neatly packed and ready to go to Arizona.  See, this trip is a house shopping trip, but my next trip there is for good.  Or at least for four years.  Yep, I'm moving from the often chilly North Dakota to Arizona.  Think I need to knit with more cotton?

Well, I guess my next project will be just right.  I thought about buying the yarn for Sitcom chic today, but held back.  I'm leaving enough stuff there that maybe I'll get it then... or maybe later.  I'm already looking forward to the chance to knit in "class" the week before graduation.

But, now a few cds to burn to take along and then I must get to bed.  Up bright and early tomorrow!!!!

Can it be?

My top down sweater, a Cabin Fever pattern Take It From The Top #602 designed by Deb Gemmell, is done!!!  I have literally had half a row and the bind off left for two days.  I'm not sure what the hold up has been.  I have no other projects on needles right now, so I haven't knit a stitch since Wednesday afternoon.  I guess I did crochet the Ipod cozy yesterday though.

I have spent a lot of time surfing the web in the past two days, so that has been part of the reason for my stall.  At any rate, it hasn't been a long stall and now other than working in two tails, my first adult sweater is done.  I'm too impatient to wait for someone else to take a picture.  So, here is my effort.

I used Bernat denimstyle yarn in indigo.  it is an nice yarn for the price.  Really inexpensive, but I liked the feel of it on the ball and liked the way it knit up even better.  I'd use the yarn again.  I think for this sweater I like it better than I would a wool yarn.  A bit lighter weight (especially given my upcoming move to Arizona)  The pattern calls for 1260 yards for the small sweater I made.  The denimstyle has 196 yards per skein.  I ended up using a bit under five skeins.

Other than my stalled mohair scarf which I could finish in a day or two if I actually got back at it I have nothing on needles now that this sweater is finished.  Can you believe it?  How did this happen?

I did make a list today though.  I really want to start the Must Have Cardigan, but there is no rush since it will be a while before I can wear it.  So I think I'm going to knit up some little projects from my stash.

For some reason I haven't been sleeping much at all lately.  Last night at about 2 am I saw the lovely orange sitcom chic  on the supereggplant blog.  I decided I need to make this.  And, then tonight in my surf I noticed that that I also decided today I want to make Sitcom Chic.  Turns out, that I'm not the only one.  Theresa at Bagatell is starting a return of the sitcom chic knit along!  Just the push I need to convince me to start this.  I am going to use the cotton ease it calls for I think in either the bubblegum or the popsicle blue.  I am leaning toward the bubblegum.  I want to go get the yarn tomorrow, but I think I will wait until while I'm in Arizona or more likely even after I get back.  Busy week coming up.

As I have no projects going right now I'd better get going - spring knit up and all :)  Here is what I am thinking.  I need to start some small and/or quick projects to take with me to Arizona next week.  It is funny, whenever I fly anywhere I honestly spend over twice as long packing my knitting stuff and my gadgets (mp3 player, computer, camera, phone, palm pilot and all their cords) than I do clothes and other stuff.  So, as I have to pack tomorrow to leave Sunday morning here is what I think I'll bring to knit.  My new happy colored sockotta yarn to make into socks of course.  My purpley cascade 220 and matching eros for a Sophie similar to the one Hannah just made (we always have our own two person knit-a-longs), might also bring some Cha Cha for a quick scarf or two.  That should be enough, and if all else fails I can buy the sitcom chic cotton ease there.

Here are some other sitcom chic from my surfing

Yes, it's official.  I need to start packing rather than doing this... and... I am going to make that lovely sitcom chick.

Cozies

I got an email this morning with this link in it.  Now, I do crochet.  And I've been thinking Georgia's flowers are darling, but haven't actually gotten around to doing any.  Now, these Ipod cozies I might just have to do.  I have some bright color acrylic yarn around left over from the bright toddler sweaters I do.  And come on, these just scream acrylic!!!  Just need to round up some dimensions for the Ipod.  Could make one for my Archos Jukebox, maybe for my cell phone... hey everyone I know with a cell phone needs one :)  Well, maybe I'll just make one to see!

Later that same day.....

Here's mine, minus the eyes because I can't seem to find my buttons... maybe I packed them.  It's holding my palm pilot so you can see how it looks filled.  Think it is Ipod sized?  I've gotta get better at photographing my stuff.  Arg... not enough light and the colors just don't show well.  But, you get the idea.  Here's the back too, complete with belt loop!  I think another nice option would be a chain stitch strap for carrying like a purse.  Fun fun!

How could I forget?

The easter bunny was very very good to me.  I got this in my basket!

I am dying to start this sweater!  I've started reading the
knit-along group on yahoo.  I am not sure if I will cave in and start this sweater soon or not.  I have cotton fleece for a spring weight short sleeved cardigan that I want to do.  And I want to add to my stash of made baby sweaters before I get too busy and find I've run out of them.  I also got this make me smile springy color sock yarn yesterday at Katie's shop when I was there for the sweater class.  I haven't made any socks for a long time.  This stuff is a cotton, wool, nylon blend that feels lovely.  One skein will make a pair, so it is a good deal too.

Of course yarn is always a good deal.  Katie read this logic somewhere.  If you go to the yarn store and buy yarn for a sweater that costs you $90 and it takes 90 days to make the sweater, that is only a dollar a day for entertainment and you get a free sweater at the end.  No, how is that for justification.  You can extend it by thinking of all the horrible things you could consider entertainment alternatives.

Anyway, once I am done with the top down sweater I am not sure what my next adventure will be.  I could have finished that today, but I just didn't get much knitting done.  I had a computer "project" to work on, spent way too much time browsing houses online, and other various stuff.  Now it's getting late, but I didn't see ER last week, so perhaps I'll watch the tape of that and knit for that hour and then go to bed.

Still undecided about my next project.  I should finish Hannah's socks.  Then I'd only have three family members left to make socks for.  My brother's feet are soooo huge I'm not sure I'll ever tackle that though.

Thinks I'm thinking on for projects... hmmm... the short sleeved cardigan from this
picture (and look at the yarn that is now almost my top down... what a good feeling).... still thinking about a French Market Bag....  the socks from the yarn I just bought.... Hannah's socks (which I should make for as part of the spring knit up).... a felted purse for my family reunion handmade auction (Another sophe I think).... a baby sweater for the family auction.... a cha cha scarf for same auction.... maybe a sophie for church auction if that ever happens.... hmmm.... you get the idea... guess I have enough in my mind that I'll never be at a loss for something to knit.  Oh, and can't forget the must have!  I've decided my rule is one big project (currently top down sweater, soon to be must have or spring cardigan) and unlimited small projects.

Well, off to er and knitting.... to the sound of pouring rain outside.

Back to civilization!!!

I spent a nice Easter weekend at my parents in southwestern North Dakota.  The catch is this - dial up internet and no cell phone service.  I did much knitting, took many pictures, but wasn't able to put any of them in a blog entry.

Here is what I've done since my last pictures.

The Lucy Bag!  Finished and felted.

I am also as we speak almost done with my top down sweater.  If I stay up late it will be done!!!  The last picture was yesterday, so it is only 2 inches from done right now, but here is the last picture anyway.

And, today we had our last wonderful sweater class.  I learned so much in this class.  Katie is great, and the conversation that goes with the knitting is tons of fun as well.

Here is my "finished" sweater.  I have to work in ALL the ends and find buttons.  But other than that done.  When it is truly done I hope to post a picture of S's American Girl modeling it.  Sorry about the dark image.

Happy Easter

It has been forever since I have written. Today is the last day of Spring Break :-( I thought i better write today and talk about how i actually got started knitting. Last year when my grandparents were visiting my grandma was knitting a scarf and i decided i wanted to learn to knit too. I didn't have time to learn while she was here so i decided i wanted to learn the next summer. In my Easter basket last year i got a kit to make an easy denim scarf and hat. I couldn't figure it out from the instructions on my own so last summer i brought it home to North Dakota and Audrey and Grandma taught me and i have been knitting ever since :-D I finished two projects for the spring knit-up over spring break they only really took me a day each. I made 2 sophie purses with the pattern from Magknits. My tension must be different from the pattern because i kind of ran out of yarn. Instead of modifying the pattern to make the straps really short i just made the purse shorter. I made one purse in black and the other is blue and has peacock looking Eros held in with it in some parts. I really like the way they both turned out. I think i like the purses shorter like this even better then how it is supposed to be. H agh snap fish isn't working right now but i will post the pictures of my felted fuzzy feet, my two purses, and my prom dress when the site is up again
